Over the years Microserve has supported and promoted the importance of education and continuing studies, which is why we established a scholarship and bursary at Douglas College in 1996. Every year we are proud to award a bursary and scholarship to two students at Douglas College.
And without futher ado, we’re pleased to introduce our 2016 Microserve Management Information Systems Scholarship recipient, Michelle Salema. Michelle is a Douglas College student in the Computer Science and Information Studies program. She recently finished her diploma in June, 2016 and was the valedictorian for her graduating class.
Want to learn more about Michelle? As seen below, she shared some information about herself and what it meant to receive this scholarship.
“I would like to focus more on UX design, both with websites and mobiles. I’m also always looking to collaborate with people and bring ideas to life. I recently got a job with a start up in the area and I’m learning how just an idea can turn into a multi-million dollar business. I’m just doing the programming for it, but I try to sit in on all of the meetings and try to absorb as much from the process as I can from other areas of the business.
This scholarship has not only helped me significantly financially, but also mentally. And by mentally I mean that along the way we face many obstacles. In the technology world things move so fast, there is new cutting-edge technology out there by the minute and often, it can make you feel small. But to be recognized by an outside source, especially a reputable, well-established company like Microserve, it reminds me that I can stand out too, and that I have what it takes to make a difference. It is such an honor to be recognized and I will forever be thankful.”
