Project Manager Infrastructure, Victoria

Client Overview

Our client, based in beautiful downtown Victoria, BC, is responsible for the administration and delivery of two of the Province of British Columbia’s most important health care programs. They are constantly looking at new technology, processes and methods of delivering services to the citizens of British Columbia. Because of this, and given their expertise in program information management, claims processing, contact centre services, document processing and information technology, they are positioned for significant growth.

Position Overview

Microserve's client requires a Project Manager-Infrastrucutre to join its team in Victoria. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).

Requirements

Our client has an immediate opening for a Project Manager with a successful track record of managing IT system implementation projects.

The Project Manager will lead matrix project teams that may include:
  • Operations Subject Matter Experts, Business Analysts, Application Developers, and Systems Engineers.
The Project Manager is responsible for all aspects of project management including:
  • the health and execution of projects, communication of project status both within Maximus and to external stakeholders (clients and partners), budget management, change management, and the integration of project activities through the client’s implementation methodology.
These projects are cross-functional and cross-organizational;
  • They vary in scope, visibility, and impact; hence PM’s must effectively facilitate inclusive and consultative decision-making, influence at all levels of the organization, and effectively negotiate and leverage resources.
Other beneficial experience with one or more of the following:
  • Managing a high performing technical team to deliver infrastructure projects
  • Working with vendors and 3rd party support organizations, as well as data center providers.
  • Managing infrastructure projects such as data center moves, hardware and software upgrades
  • Managing Oracle DBMS and middleware upgrade projects, including any development and testing required for the Oracle applications
  • Managing Desktop updates and windows rollouts
  • Working on vendor selection committees or projects
  • Engaging as part of an overall larger project and working towards common goals and objectives to meet project requirements and deadlines
  • Understanding of ITIL and of SDLC methodology
  • PMI certification and prior experience with an application landscape that supports a Health Services environment will be an asset
Education:
  • The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with major coursework in information systems, computer science, or related field, and demonstrated experience successfully managing the development and implementation of large scale enterprise applications.

Project Manager, Okanagan

Position Overview

Microserve's client requires a Project Manager to join its team in Okanagan. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week).

Responsibilities

The Project Manager, Advanced Research Computing (ARC) manages the entire project lifecycle of medium scale or complex projects including developing project plans, assembling project teams, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed and developing schedules to ensure timely completion of projects.

The Project Manager is responsible for ARC and Research Computing Services Business Process Improvement using industry best practices. Primarily works at the clients Okanagan location related projects but will collaborate and align processes and best practises with the client’s ARC and research computing professionals at other client sites.

Requirements

  • Lead projects through a complete life cycle for assigned projects related to ARC and Research Computing Services including broad implementations and projects within IT, Media & Classroom Services.
  • Monitor project scope, schedule, budget and other key aspects to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Manage expectations and communicates in a collaborative environment.
  • Work with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the unit, to understand project requirements.
  • Responsible for IT Procurement processes relating to ARC and Research Computing Services activities including, planning, estimating, implementation and administration.
  • Responsible for ARC and Research Computing Services Business Process Improvement.
  • Fosters a collegial, positive and supportive work environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for management of staff, scheduling, hiring, training, coaching, development, evaluation, promotion, conflict resolution and discipline up to and including termination.
  • Management of the client’s Okanagan ARC and Research Computing Services budgets.
  • Member of the IT, Media and Classroom Services Leadership team and takes on project work in keeping with this membership.
Core Duties:

  • Initiates projects following appropriate project management methodology including gathering and defining project requirements, developing project charters, project plans, budgets and schedules, identifying staffing requirements, and forming project teams.
  • Selects and follows project management methods, procedures, and quality objectives, and tracks metrics for assessing progress.
  • Balances workload, provides technical and analytical guidance and work direction to project team, including scheduling, assignment of work, review of project efforts and removal of roadblocks which may inhibit project success.
  • Ensures that all team members have the tools and training required to perform effectively, and provides the team with constructive feedback as it pertains to project performance.
  • Assesses variances from the project plans, budgets and schedules, develops and implements changes as necessary to ensure that the project remains within specified scope and is within time, cost, and quality objectives, and keeps management aware of the situation.
  • Conducts formal review with business sponsor at project completion to confirm acceptance and satisfaction.
  • Identifies potential areas for improvement in current methodologies and provides guidance to other less experienced project managers.
  • Develops and maintains a productive working relationship with project sponsors, vendors and key clients.
  • Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
  • Performs other related duties as required
