Microserve is looking for a great, new sys admin to join our team here in Burnaby and on behalf of a Vicotoria-based client we are seeking a Cisco Network Analyst. Both are permanent positions with great companies (if I do say so myself, since I do work at Microserve). Cisco Network Analyst

Client Overview

Our client, based in beautiful downtown Victoria, BC, is responsible for the administration and delivery of two of the Province of British Columbia’s most important health care programs. They are constantly looking at new technology, processes and methods of delivering services to the citizens of British Columbia. Because of this, and given their expertise in program information management, claims processing, contact centre services, document processing and information technology, they are positioned for significant growth.

Position Overview

Microserve’s client requires a Cisco Network Analyst to join their team in Victoria. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). Our client is looking for qualified IT professional to work in large government organization with direct Health Care experience.

Responsibilities

  • Our client has an immediate need for a Network Analyst who will be well versed in Cisco Routing, Physical Network Design (Layers 1, 2, 3), who can direct and evaluate service providers, who also who also has a working knowledge of CISCO Voice components coupled with system administration and virtual storage experience. The successful incumbent will help identify areas for improvement for network/operational excellence.
  • The Network Analyst works closely with other Network Analysts and all data center professionals and will be providing mostly tier 2 level of support at the network operational level and will enact as a liaison between the network architect, Tier 1 Support and external service providers for the network and the CISCO Voice systems.
  • Our client supports a complex network system with multiple data centers spread across Canada, and integrating with the US organization. Our client works with government network support teams as well as our hosting and network providers to support the networking requirements.
  • The successful candidate will be a methodical problem solver and will analyze and resolve business challenges within budget, and is comfortable with peer and supervisory feedback. You must possess a desire to learn and adopt new processes for continual improvement and to keep abreast of new technologies.

Requirements

Education:

  • Preference for a Technical Diploma or Technical Certification from an accredited technical college or university, with major coursework in data communications, routing, and network administration.
  • CISCO certification would be an asset.

Systems Administrator (Microserve)

Role and responsibilties

As a member of the Managed Services team you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service and technical support to our clients and employees. Systems Administrators provide support for primarily Microsoft environments including Desktops, Servers, Routers, Switches, Security devices and Client Networks. You are a self-starter who can work well on their own and within a team, you are detail oriented and love working with people.

Responsibilities

  • System optimization, planning, design, implementation, and preventative maintenance activities including, but not limited to patching, upgrading, and performance tuning.
  • Analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of system hardware, software and networking issues up to and including system operating system.
  • Performance of high level root cause analysis for service interruptions, resolution of issues and creation of preventive measures.
  • Maintenance of system documentation and provision of reports on maintenance contracts, SLAs and warranty information on of assigned systems.
  • Develop & Maintain technical knowledge of client environments
  • Experience with industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management, and working in collocation datacenters
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems
  • Creating / Maintaining Standard Operating Procedures
  • Approving MS and 3rd party patches – scheduled monthly and out-of-band
  • Proactive Reporting on and Remediation of failed patches
  • Develops design concepts and generates technical proposals
  • Performs requirement analysis, traceability and maintenance of requirements
  • Coordinates design of subsystems and integration of total system
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves program support deficiencies.
  • Perform New client Statement of Work & on boarding assessments
  • MMS Team Systems Tools Management
  • Managing tickets to meet or exceed metrics
  • Time tracking and submission of weekly time and expense reports

Qualifications and Required Education

  • Certificate, Diploma or Bachelor Degrees in a relevant area of study (Networking, Systems Administration, etc.) from accredited institution
  • 2+ years of progressive experience as an IT systems generalist providing technical support to users
  • Experience in Exchange, Active Directory and Windows Server 2008/2012
  • Knowledge of backup, Antivirus/ Anti-Spam systems
  • Networking skill in servers, firewalls, and switches
  • Experience with virtualization - VMware vSphere, ESX, ESXi, and vCenter
  • Experience in FTP, VPN, SSH, SSL, Cloud
  • Microsoft Certifications (ie. MCITP, MCSE) recommended.
  • Other certifications from VMWare, Meraki, Cisco, Juniper and other Tier 1 vendors are an asset
  • Knowledge of ITIL Foundations or equivalent experience an asset
  • People person comfortable with dealing with a wide array of people in difficult situations
  • Proven ability to work rapidly in high pressure situations
  • Must have excellent English oral, comprehension and written communication skills and ability to convert technical terms into everyday language to ensure understanding.
  • Passion for technology demonstrated by a desire to obtain new technical certifications
  • Strong demonstrated problem solving ability
  • Knowledge and ability to document server and system design & security.
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision
  • Thrives in a team atmosphere
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Background check
