Position Overview

Microserve is looking for a HR Generalist who has experience in talent acquisition to join our team in Burnaby, BC.  If you are looking to grow your career in the HR Generalist field while showcasing your technical recruitment experience, this is the place to be.  Due to the diversity of responsibilities of the role, the ideal candidate will be a competent in full cycle recruitment and resourceful with a passion for HR.  The goal of this role is to ensure the HR department’s operations will be running smoothly and effectively to deliver maximum value to the organization as a whole.  This role will be 70% recruitment and 30% HR Generalist responsibilities.  We are looking for a savvy IT recruiter that can hit the ground running with full cycle recruitment while managing HR Generalist tasks.   

This role will truly be a hybrid position; the HR team will be looking to you as a Sr. role on the team and seek your advice in areas such as staffing, training, development and policy interpretation.  There is a high level of administrative tasks in conjunction with the responsibilities as outlined below.  


Talent Acquisition: 

  • Responsible for defining the knowledge, skills, experience, and behavioral requirements for positions, and for sourcing top talent for current and future staffing needs 

  • Oversees the candidate interviewing, selection and onboarding processes and assists managers 

  • Interacts with Hiring Managers to understand job requirements 

  • Posts, sources, screens and interviews applicants in line with requirements and ensures that the reference checking process is completed 

  • Coordinates interviews with Hiring Managers / defined panels 

  • Supports team or other team members on specific project based hiring requirements through developing appropriate strategies 

  • Develops and manages strong consultative relationships with hiring managers and candidates 

  • Act as the primary point of contact for new hire and onboarding documentation 

  • Create all new hire/contractor documentation and packages 

  • Communicates onboarding process with both internal and external new hires to ensure staffing goals are met 

  • Create and maintain confidential employee and contractor files; electronic and paper form 

Human Resources Generalist 

  • Provide support to employees in various HR related topics such as leaves, compensation etc. and resolve issues 

  • Gather and analyze data with useful HR metrics 

  • Understand organizational issues and provide advisory support to managers through the cycle of HR activities and workforce risk management 

  • Ensure the implementation and deployment of projects, initiatives, tools and HR programs 

  • Coach managers when it comes to employee relations such as absenteeism leaves and any other topics and activities related to the employee life cycle/performance management  

  • Provide counseling and advice to managers and employees on a variety of HR subjects to ensure compliance to internal policies/procedures, and any legislative requirements 

  • Collaborate with colleagues in the human resources department to develop policies, programs, and solutions 

  • Assist in new hire orientations  

  • Work closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale and increase productivity and retention 

  • Develop and nurture partnerships through human resources to bridge the divide between management and employees 

  • Manage various HR related projects 

  • Assist in development and implementation of human resource policies 

  • Find ways to build morale, improve workplace relationships, and boost productivity and retention 

  • Provide support as needed to the Director of Human Resources 

  • Administrative and additional tasks as required  



  • Post-Secondary education and/or certification in Human Resources strongly desired 

  • Proven experience in IT recruitment strongly desired 

  • Proven experience in strategic sourcing strongly desired  

  • Practical experience in a HR generalist will be considered an asset 

  • Minimum 1-2 years of relevant professional experience, including recruitment, HR and/or people leadership experience 

  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 

  • Experience working with HRIS system(s) 

  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information 

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize 

  • Ability to meet tight deadlines 

  • Understanding of general human resources policies and procedures 

  • Good knowledge of employment/labor laws 

  • Excellent communication and people skills 

  • Aptitude in problem-solving 

  • Desire to work as a team with a results driven approach
