Printer Technician

Position Summary
The Printer Technician is accountable for servicing and repairing various products such as printers, multi-function devices, copiers, plotters etc. and performing additional duties, as required. This role’s responsibilities typically involve the routine maintenance and repairs of the above-mentioned devices within a specified geography throughout Vancouver/Lower Mainland. Depending on geography or company needs, there may be a requirement to perform basic work on PC/ desktop/ laptop repairs as well.
Responsibilities:
Installation and Setup:

Install and configure various types of printing equipment (e.g., printers, copiers, MFDs) at client locations.

Set up and connect devices to network systems to enable printing and scanning capabilities.

Test and troubleshoot equipment to ensure proper functioning.
Maintenance and Repairs:

Perform routine maintenance on printing equipment to prevent breakdowns and optimize performance.

Diagnose and repair hardware and software issues, including paper jams, error messages, and connectivity problems.

Replace defective components and parts, such as toner cartridges, drums, and rollers.

Update and upgrade printer firmware and software to ensure compatibility with the latest operating systems and security protocols.
Self-Education and Skill Enhancement:

Engage in continuous self-education to enhance technical knowledge and skills related to printers, copiers, and multifunction devices.

Explore online resources, technical manuals, and industry publications to expand expertise.

Pursue and obtain certifications from printing equipment vendors, such as HP, Xerox, Lexmark, and others, to demonstrate expertise with specific brands and models.

Attend workshops, seminars, and industry conferences to network with peers and gain insights into the latest printing technologies and best practices.
User Training and Support:

Train end-users and client staff on the proper use and maintenance of printing equipment when necessary.

Provide onsite and remote technical support and troubleshoot printing-related issues for users.

Perform regular quality checks to ensure that printed documents meet the required standards in terms of color accuracy and print quality.

Calibrate and fine-tune equipment to maintain consistent output.
Health and Safety:

Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines when working with electrical equipment to maintain a safe working environment.

Dispose of waste materials, such as used toner cartridges, in an environmentally responsible manner.
Qualifications
-
College Diploma / Associate Degree (technical field) or equivalent certification is preferred
-
Experience with computers, electronics, mechanics, etc. is desired
-
COMPTIA – A+ / PDI certification is preferred

Manufacturers certifications for printers is an asset
-
Knowledge of manufacturers service advisory and parts lookup processes are considered an asset
-
1-3 years of experience as a technician in an on-site break-fix role
-
Ability and willingness to work variable hours if necessary (extended hours, weekends, on call, abbreviated work week)

Ability to work unsupervised and travel to support surrounding geographies as required

Demonstrated Windows and Network Connectivity competency

MS Office experience
Position Requirements

Must be able to pass a criminal record check

Able to lift up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis

Must have a valid (full) driver’s license (the license may not include restrictions) and a satisfactory driving record

Access to own vehicle.
Compensation and Benefits:
-
In accordance with the BC Pay Transparency Act the range for this role for BC residents is $21 – $25 per hour
