Develop the IT job listing
Information Technology is a very broad field and what’s more, every company has its own set of specific requirements. There is a wide variety of IT hiring positions: developer, project manager, network engineer, security specialist, data analyst, and more.
From the beginning, it can feel a little overwhelming trying to determine what kind of role you need to fill. Rather than focusing on the title, try focusing on the responsibilities. You are the expert here. You know the job. Start by taking the time to put these into writing.
Be sure to address the following key points:
- Introduce your business, its culture, and the work perks offered
- Identify the job’s role and responsibilities
- Include key hard skills (such as education and certification requirements)
- Include soft skills (teamwork, presentations, people skills)
- Proofread! Be accurate and avoid typos or embarrassing mistakes such as the wrong versions of systems or hardware.
Job applicants will see dozens of job postings, so getting this right is important so that your listing stands out. While writing the IT hiring listing, think about what sets your company apart from other places of employment. Do you offer RRSP matching and benefits? Include that in the description! Do you have beer on tap every Friday? Add that in too!
